Father's Day

Father's day originates from Sonara Dodd who first conceived the idea of Father's Day  after listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909.  Dodd thought it would be good to have a special day of celebration to honor her father who was a Civil War veteran.  In her eyes, it was her father that made all the parental sacrifices and was courageous, selfless, and a loving man.  Although, the original date chosen for the holidays was June 5th (Dodd's Dad's b-day) the celebration was postponed until June 19th, the third Sunday in June so people will have time to prepare.   Also, in 1924 President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national Father's Day, but it did not become official until 1966 when president Lyndon B. Johnson signed the presidential proclamation decreeing the 3rd Sunday of June as Father' s Day.  In a family a Father plays a very crucial role to any child, and if you are a Father weather planned or unplanned you should spend some time with your child on a daily basis and let them know that they are special and loved by you.
